The Mira Jean Story
In 2015, Kate Hougen switched careers to pursue her dream and launch the Mira Jean Designs textile line. A former marketing director for a conservation organization, her first collection combined her passion for design and love of the outdoors. Nature-inspired designs were printed on organic and natural fabrics. In 2017, the line expanded to include wallpaper. Most recently, Kate added a luxurious sisal grasscloth wallcovering to the collection. Designs continue to be inspired by nature and travels to coastal towns.
Since its launch, Mira Jean Designs has been featured in Traditional Home, The Washington Post, DC by Design, Pattern Observer, Fast Company, Home & Design, Alexandria Stylebook, Arlington Magazine and more. In 2017, Kate was a featured speaker at the DC Design House. In 2018, Kate began offering interior decorating services to local homeowners - and her first major renovation project for clients earned a feature in Arlington Magazine. In 2021, Mira Jean Designs received Arlington Magazine's Best of Arlington Editor's Pick for Best Wallpaper.
An artist at heart with a Fine Arts degree, Kate is happiest when creating. When not painting, designing or decorating, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and beloved Bernese Mountain Dogs Peter & Piper, and enjoys long walks on the nature trails near her home in Arlington, Virginia.
Whether it's a mid century modern home, contemporary waterfront property, row house in DC, bungalow in Del Ray or red brick colonial in Alexandria, Kate loves listening to each homeowner's preferred aesthetic and finding the right mix of furnishings, decor, pattern and color for their home. Spaces are unique to each homeowner's tastes and how they truly live in their homes. The right mix of practical, beautiful and functional.
