The Mira Jean Story
Kate Hougen launched the Mira Jean Designs textile line in 2015 to bring together her passion for design with her love of nature. In 2017, the line expanded to include wallpaper. As a former Director of Marketing for The Nature Conservancy, Kate blends inspiration from nature, her children and loving memories of coastal vacations to create luxurious textiles by the yard, wallpaper and home decor products on 100% GOTS-certified organic fabrics that are made in the USA. Every product design begins with a painting, and every painting begins in nature.
Since its launch, Mira Jean Designs has been featured in Traditional Home, The Washington Post, DC by Design, Pattern Observer, Fast Company, Home & Design, Alexandria Stylebook, Arlington Magazine and more. In 2017, Kate was a featured speaker at the DC Design House. In 2018, she began offering interior decorating services to local homeowners. An artist at heart with a Fine Arts degree, she is happiest when creating.
When Kate's not painting, designing or decorating, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and beloved Bernese Mountain Dog Piper, and going on long walks on the trails near her home in Arlington, Virginia.
